Paul van Dyk
German jock Paul-van-Dyk is arguably the best thing that has happened to the Trance/Progressive house scene since BT debuted IMA back in '95.
Each of his three Deviant singles of '97, Beautiful Place, Forbidden Fruit and Words, have made a significant impact on the dance charts, whilst the parent album, Seven Ways, sold over 10,000 copies upon its first release in 1996. It was later re-released in 1998, along with a re-issue of his first album, 45RPM, and the remix album Vorsprung Dyk Technik. PvD's first release was 'Visions of Shiva' in 1992 on MFS, which was a collaboration with Cosmic Baby. PVD has also notched up numerous quality remixes under his belt, including those with epic house master BT, and those with Humate, New Order, Dance 2 Trance, Sven Väth, Age of Love, Amen, Tilt and the Sunday Club (most of which are found on the '97 double CD Perspective). Not content with dominating the German club scene, Paul has since been filling dancefloors all over Britain and Ireland, including a residency at Sheffield´s Gatecrasher in 1999. He was voted as best international DJ 1999 at the annual Muzik Awards and Best international DJ 1999 from The Ministry of Sound Magazine.
His third album, Out There and Back, has sold impressively both in Europe and in the US since its June 2000 release. The album was preceeded by the hit singles "Tell Me Why (The Riddle)", which features Saint Etienne singer Sarah Cracknell, and "Avenue/Another Way". Van Dyk is working on the third single from the album, titled "We Are Alive", which will include remixes by Florida breakbeat veteran DJ Icey and London's Red Jerry, along with a new mix of his own.

CD Single: The Green Valley EP
[MFS 7052-3]
|
 | Track Listing:
- My World - Visual Valley Mix (4.17)
- My World - Florjin Mix (6.15)
- A Love Letter (5.06)
- My World - Manchester 2004 (7.31)
- The Green Valley Theme - Part 1 (6.05)
|
Released 1994 on MFS. All tracks written and produced by Paul van Dyk. Co-produced by Johnny Klimek. This is a very early EP from PvD, although it sounds as good as anything from his Seven Ways and 45RPM albums. The Visual Valley Mix and Florjin Mix are the tracks to home in on, both of which are typical uplifting PvD style trance, whilst the other 3 tracks are rather average.

Album : Seven Ways
[MFS 7088-2]
|
The CD version of this album is a continuous mix, whilst the vinyl album [MFS 7088-1] is unmixed. Released in '96, this is a storming album from PVD and a definite must for the collection.
|
Single: Forbidden Fruit
[MFS 7106-0]
|
| Track Listing:
- Forbidden Fruit - Forbidden Future Mix (7.49)
- Forbidden Fruit - Fruit of Love Mix (6.20)
- Forbidden Fruit - BT & PVD's Food of Love Mix (9.42)
|
All the mixes on this 12" are storming, but the one to go for here is the BT & PVD's Food of Love mix. This is the best track/remix from the Seven Ways album by far. There are various other versions of the 12" and CD single, all containing different mixes. See this unofficial discography for more details.

|
| Track Listing:
- Beautiful Place - Paradise Mix (6.50)
- Beautiful Place - Just Beautiful (6.56)
- Beautiful Place - Salt Tank Remix (8.04)
|
There's nothing exactly amazing about this track, although Salt Tank deliver a reasonable remix. Other mixes available on the CD single of this track (unofficial discography ).

CD Single: Beautiful Place

Single: Words
[DVNT 26X]
|
| Track Listing:
- Words - For Love (7.00)
- Words - Curves Headcase Mix (5.51)
- Moonlightning - Nightdrive Mix (4.34)
- Moonlightning - Nightclub Mix (6.56)
|
Again, this 12" is a little on the weak side, although it does include the extra track Moonlightning. Vocals are by Toni Halliday and are quoted from the book The Ayn Rand Lexicon. Other mixes available on the CD single of this track (unofficial discography).

Single: For an Angel
[DVNT 24X]
|
| Track Listing:
- For an Angel - Paul van Dyk E-Werk Club Mix
- For an Angel - Way Out West Remix
- For an Angel - Terry Lee Brown Jnr. Remix
|
Released 8/98. Taken from the re-released 45 RPM album, and remixed by the likes of Way Out West, Terry Lee Brown Jnr, Ashtrax (CD only) and PVD himself. The above track listing is for the vinyl 12", but other mixes by PVD and Ashtrax feature on the CD singles (x2). However, I wouldn't bother with the dark and deep (and relatively naff) remixes by WOW, TLB and Ashtrax, because its only PVD who serves up the goods in style - yet another awesome trancey remix to set dancefloors alight.
|
Album: 45 RPM
[DVNT25CD / DVNT25LP]

Originally released in 1994, Deviant Records have just re-released (5/98) this classic debut album from PVD. An excellent continual mix of progressive trance - a must for the collection.

|
| Track Listing:

|
This is one not to miss - PVD provides a scorching remix. This is a superb piece of progressive house out as a 12" on the Aquarius record label. It was also released as a CD single on Aquarius and as a 12"/CD single on Posativa. It also features on the Trancemaster Vol.18 compilation.

Remix: Tilt v Paul Van Dyk - Rendezvous
[PERF 154T]
|
| Track Listing:
- Tilt v Paul Van Dyk : Rendezvous - Quadrophonic Mix (10:14)
- Tilt featuring Zee : Butterfly - Tilt's Mechanism Mix (10:41)
|
1998 release on Perfecto, and yet another dance floor stormer thanks to the Quadrophonic Mix of the track Rendezvous provided by PVD. Another must for the collection. Note that this 12" is titled Tilt featuring Zee - Butterfly, although the original working title of the track was prior to release was Storm. Other mixes of the track Butterfly feature on the 2 x CD format, although only cd2 [PERF CD2] features the PVD mix of Rendezvous.
|
Remix: Humate - Love Stimulation
[DVNT22X]
|
Released 1/99 on Deviant Records. Written and produced by Paul Van Dyk, Gerrer Frerichs, Schidt and Huntermann. Originally released in 1993 on MFS [CD: MFS/DSB 7034-3; CD: MFS/DSB 7034-0]. There's probably a second 12" of this with other mixes, since it's also been re-released as 2 x CD single. However, this 12" features two banging mixes, of which I prefer the Blank & Jones Remix.
