Slacker

Slacker is currently on XL records. They are Shem McCauley and Simon Rogers, DJ/producers with plenty of credentials. Shem was known as DJ Streets Ahead in the mid Eighties when he was one of the UK's leading scratch mix DJ's and was closely involved with Tim Simenon in the early days of Bomb the Bass. He soon became a much in demand remixer, working on James Brown, Roxanne Shante, Was Not Was, Digital Underground and many others.
Simon Rogers is a highly versatile producer, in particular he has worked on all the Lightning Seeds albums. Together Shem and Simon formed Ramp in the early 90's and enjoyed success with the club classic Rock the Discotek and Stomp on the Loaded label as well as plenty of remixes for D:Ream, Grace Jones, Sister Sledge, Armand Van Helden, Strike, Yazz and Boy George to name just a few. However Simon's production work with the Lightning Seeds often led him to be detained in a Liverpool studio for months on end and Shem soon found himself with ideas bursting out of his head and plenty of time on his hands. Shem coined the moniker Slacker and the tracks came thick and fast. First came Feel Space and Jukebox In The Sky, then Flying Baby - all became critically acclaimed underground club hits. When Simon's production duties with the Lightning Seeds were completed in the summer the pair were re-united and came up with the one of their best creations ever. Scared is powerful, atmospheric house groove that captures the current mood perfectly and it generated a huge buzz even though only one DJ - Sasha - actually had a DAT copy up until November of last year. By the time a handful of test pressings had gone out it was clear this was going to be much more than just an ordinary club hit.
